Camps and excursions

School camps

Each year we offer a an overnight camp to our middle pod students and a 2 night camp to our senior pod students. Our middle pod go to Camp Warrawee at Joyner in November whilst our senior pod attend either the Tallebudgera or Currimundi Active Recreation Camps in August.

School camps provide students with valuable learning opportunities not usually available in the school or home setting and as such our students will participate in a variety of activities and adventures such as low ropes course, canoeing, climbing wall, archery, orienteering and games. These activities will be conducted by experienced and accredited camp staff and supported by our classroom teachers and modified to suit the age and ability level of the students.

The camp program is focussed on providing new opportunities and experiences that are planned to encourage critical thinking, problem solving and skills related to lifelong learning. The camp programs will be challenging but rewarding for all students who attend.

In addition to this we also offer a leadership day camp experience to our year 5 and 6 students also at Tallebudgera in February.

Excursions

During the year, teachers arrange excursions for classes and student groups. These are usually organised in conjunction with topics being studied in class. Parent helpers may be needed from time to time and in such circumstances parents are encouraged to participate wherever possible. Examples of the types of excursions we regularly organize include to the Bunyaville Environmental Education Centre, the Sandgate Museum and local area, Out of the Box and Australia Zoo.
