Class Music Program
Our specialist music teacher visits Sandgate State School
for three days a week to teach an aural, sequential and developmental music
program aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Sandgate students in Years 1-6 have a weekly music
lesson with a specialist teacher. Prep students also receive music instruction during the year.
Music is one strand of The Arts key learning area
and as such students are assessed and reported on around their progress in
Music across a banded period e.g. Years P-2, 3-4, 5-6.

Choral groups
Students may elect to be in one of the school's performing choir groups. All choirs practise once a week with the Music Teacher.
New voices are always welcome!

Instrumental Music program
Students from year 3-6 are able to be involved in the school
instrumental program. Strings begin in year 3 whilst brass, woodwind and
percussion tuition begins in year 5. Instruments are loaned to students for a
period of time and a music specialist from Education Queensland provides
instruction. Students participating in the program are required to pay a levy
through the Student Resource Scheme to cover the costs of servicing the instruments, participating in competitions
and purchasing sheet music to learn. More information about this payment can be found in the documents section of our website.
As the students progress, they join one of the school
ensembles or bands. The experienced brass, woodwind and percussion students
form the Sandgate State School senior band. They perform at special school
occasions during the year, as well as travelling to compete and perform at
various events.
