The Arts

At Sandgate State School, students engage in a rich and varied Arts program that supports creativity, expression and confidence.

Students participate in a weekly Arts lesson, where they develop their skills, creativity and appreciation for the Arts.

Our Arts program is designed so that students experience the different strands of The Arts curriculum across a two-year cycle. Each year, students participate in Music along with two additional strands from:

  • Drama
  • Visual Arts
  • Dance
  • Media Arts

The Arts is structured as a banded subject, meaning it is taught and reported on across year level groupings:

  • Prep–Year 2
  • Years 3–4
  • Years 5–6

Through our Arts program, students are encouraged to explore their creativity, collaborate with others and develop confidence in expressing their ideas.

Glee Club

Students at Sandgate State School have the opportunity to be part of our vibrant Glee Club, led by our specialist Arts teacher.

Glee Club is open to students across the school and provides a fun, inclusive space for those who enjoy singing and performing. Weekly rehearsals focus on building confidence, teamwork and performance skills, while fostering a love of music.

  • Junior Glee Club (Prep–Year 2) – lunch break rehearsals
  • Senior Glee Club (Years 3–6) – lunch break rehearsals

Students have the opportunity to perform at school assemblies and other events multiple times throughout the year, sharing their talents with the school community.

New voices are always welcome!

 Instrumental Music Program

At Sandgate State School, students are provided with exciting opportunities to develop their musical talents through our Instrumental Music Program.

Students in Years 3 to 6 can participate, with string instruments introduced from Year 3, and brass, woodwind and percussion available from Year 4. Tuition is provided by a specialist music teacher from the Department of Education, supporting students to build their skills and confidence as musicians.

Instruments are available for loan for a period of time, allowing students to access the program without needing to purchase their own instrument. Families are asked to contribute a levy through the Student Resource Scheme, which supports instrument maintenance, sheet music and participation in performances and events. Further details can be found in the Documents section of our website.

As students develop their skills, they have the opportunity to join one of the school’s ensembles or bands. Our experienced brass, woodwind and percussion students come together to form the Sandgate State School Senior Band, performing at school events and representing the school at festivals and competitions.

Through participation in the Instrumental Music Program, students develop not only musical ability, but also teamwork, discipline and confidence.
