At Sandgate State School, students are provided with exciting opportunities to develop their musical talents through our Instrumental Music Program.
Students in Years 3 to 6 can participate, with string instruments introduced from Year 3, and brass, woodwind and percussion available from Year 4. Tuition is provided by a specialist music teacher from the Department of Education, supporting students to build their skills and confidence as musicians.
Instruments are available for loan for a period of time, allowing students to access the program without needing to purchase their own instrument. Families are asked to contribute a levy through the Student Resource Scheme, which supports instrument maintenance, sheet music and participation in performances and events. Further details can be found in the Documents section of our website.
As students develop their skills, they have the opportunity to join one of the school’s ensembles or bands. Our experienced brass, woodwind and percussion students come together to form the Sandgate State School Senior Band, performing at school events and representing the school at festivals and competitions.
Through participation in the Instrumental Music Program, students develop not only musical ability, but also teamwork, discipline and confidence.
