At Sandgate State School, Health and Physical Education supports students to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead healthy, active and balanced lives.
Through the Health component of the curriculum, students build a strong sense of self and learn to develop and maintain respectful relationships. They explore ways to enhance their own wellbeing and contribute positively to their community. Students are also supported to think critically, challenge assumptions and make informed decisions about their health and safety.
Physical Education focuses on developing fundamental movement skills and an understanding of how the body moves. Students participate in a variety of physical activities designed to build confidence, competence and enjoyment. These experiences encourage a lifelong appreciation of physical activity, outdoor recreation and sport, both within Australia and globally.
Students participate in a weekly Physical Education lesson with our specialist PE teacher:
- In Terms 1 and 4, students take part in swimming lessons in our school pool
- In Terms 2 and 3, the focus shifts to developing athletic and movement skills on our school grounds
The Health component of the HPE curriculum is delivered by classroom teachers and specialist staff, ensuring a comprehensive and supportive approach to student wellbeing.
Through HPE, students develop important personal, social and physical skills that support their success both at school and beyond.
