Guidance Officer (GO)
The Guidance officer visits our school two days a week to work with the administration team and Student Enrichment and Intervention team (SEIT) to respond to student needs in the school. Parents, students and teachers can initiate referrals to the guidance officer via the SEIT meetings where cases are prioritised.
The guidance officer will work to:
Identify concerns.
Discover ways to solve the problem.
Determine responsibilities.
Monitor change.
Develop a picture of how things may change when the problem is solved.
Ways to solve issues cover collaborative consultation, problem-solving, counselling and contracting, teaching, referral to out-of-school agencies and assessment.

Inclusion Leader
The Inclusion Leader is at school 5 days of the week to support class teachers with differentiation to cater for students' diverse learning needs and in the provision of programs to assist students who may experience difficulties in learning. The Inclusion Leader also leads the SEIT meetings.
Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)
A speech language pathologist visits the school one day per week to conduct speech language assessments and develop programs for children experiencing difficulties in speech language development. English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) students
An EAL/D learner describes students who are learning English as an additional language or dialect. School staff have access to a suite of regional materials to support the provision of programs for EAL/D students. The Inclusion Leader overseas this program and supports teacher aides to work with students who have recently arrived from overseas as well as more advanced EAL/D students to cope with the demands of the mainstream curriculum.
Chaplain
The Chaplain provides social, emotional, and
spiritual support to students, staff, and wider school community. A Chaplain is not a
counsellor but works closely with the other school support staff to support students when required. Sandgate State School and Sandgate District State High School share a Chaplain across the week. The school has a Chaplaincy Committee which is made
up of parents, staff, and or community members; this committee supports the
Chaplain practically in many different ways.
Chaplaincy support at Sandgate State School:
- Friday breakfast club - open to all students from 8:10am
- Pantry Project – Lunch box supplies and sandwiches accessible by staff for students who may need lunch for whatever reason.
- Chappy Chest - Providing school supplies for students who may not be able to access them.
- Group programs – Running over a series of weeks with small groups of students
- Attending school camps, sports days, and other extra-curricular activities or events.
- Engaging with local community organisations such as churches and local businesses to form links with the school.
- Classroom support – Visiting classrooms, supporting and building relationships with students.
- 'Chappy Chats' - One on one conversations, providing a safe space and a listening ear to students over a wide range of topics or issues either once-off or an on-going basis. On-going support requires parent permission and a referral through SEIT.
- Mentoring – time out of the classroom to play a game and chat
