Class Music ProgramDebbie O’Shea, is the music teacher at Sandgate State School for three days a week. “I see a good classroom music program as essential to the total education of each student. This school has an aural, sequential and developmental music program which uses the voice as its main tool. The music room is a great place to be!”POPCORN (Junior Choir)Popcorn is a non-auditioned group open to all students in Prep to Year Three. We have recently won second place in the Queensland Music Awards in the category for choirs of up to fifty voices with students in year three or below. The students in this group have a great deal of fun while learning some basic choral techniques.GLOSS (The Girls and ladies of Sandgate State - Senior Girls Choir)The Senior Girls Choir is a non-auditioned group open to all girls in Year 4 - 7. This voluntary group provides an opportunity for further experience in music, development of vocal technique and all aspects of team work.BOSS (Boys of Sandgate State - Senior Boys Choir)This choir, formed in 2003, is a non-auditioned group for students in Years 4 – 7. BOSS is going from strength to strength and performing many types of music. It is very important that boys are able to participate in, enjoy, and learn through involvement in the arts.In Treble (Vocal Group)This is the only auditioned choir at Sandgate State School. Students in Year 6 and 7 may audition for this 20 - 30 voice ensemble. Performing more complex music, the students in this group have the opportunity to expand their choral skills, developing a much higher level of musicianship.Instrumental ProgramStudents from Year 3 - 7 are able to be involved in the school instrumental program. Strings begin in Year 3, Brass, Woodwind and Percussion tuition begins in Year 5. As the students progress, they join one of the school ensembles.Sandgate State School BandThe experienced Brass, Woodwind and Percussion students form the Sandgate State School Senior Band. They perform at special school occasions during the year, as well as travelling to compete and perform at various events.When will the students do Music?Sandgate students have a music lesson once a week with the music teacher Debbie O’Shea. These weekly lessons are part of an eight year program that feeds into secondary school. Music is one strand of The Arts and as such, is part of one of the Key Learning Areas from Years 1 - 10. The students may also elect to be in one of the performing groups. ALL students are able to be part of a school choir. Sandgate is a “School that strives for Everyone.”Music events at our school♪ Music Night (September).♪ Festival of Music Competition. ♪ Choir Competitions. ♪ Performing for Community Groups – Aged Care etc. ♪ Carols by Candlelight – Sandgate Rotary Club. ♪ Songs By The Sea – local non-competitive festival.
